Lucky’s Market Holds ‘Bacon Cutting’ to Open Columbia Store

Lucky’s Market will open its first natural and specialty grocery in Missouri on Jan. 15, at 111 S. Providence Road, just south of Broadway in Columbia. Opening day activities include a bacon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. with a $10,000 big check giveaway to the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture, followed by coffee and a store tour. The Missouri store is the fourth nationwide for Lucky’s, a Boulder favorite that expanded within Colorado and into Ohio in 2013. Locations in Louisville, Ky., and Billings, Mont., are scheduled to open in 2014 as well. Other special events planned around the store’s opening include:
  • A grand opening party on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with $1 house-made pork brats grilled outside, live music and face painting for children.
  • A local food fest on Sunday, Jan. 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the Ozark Mountain Biscuit Food Truck, local beer and wine sampling and local vendors with food samples.
  • 5% Days in which 5% of the day’s total net sales will go to Grant Elementary (Jan. 21), Lee Expressive Arts Elementary (Jan. 28), Thompson Center at Mizzou (Feb. 4) and Blues in the Schools (Feb. 11).
  • Reusable bag credits from Jan. 15 through March 31. Shoppers reusing their shopping bags will get a 10-cent credit on their purchase or send a donation to PedNet, First Chance for Kids or the Columbia Community Gardening Coalition.
“We are incredibly proud to be opening in Missouri,” saYS Bo Sharon, who founded Lucky’s Market with his wife, Trish. “We imagine our stores as an oasis of health, kindness and support, the kind of store we love to shop in ourselves. Boulder is a big town for natural food, and we hope to share the best of that in Columbia. We also hope you’ll find some new tastes for your kitchen, either as inspiring ingredients or at our chef-quality deli counter – and we cannot wait to discover some fantastic Missouri farmers and vendors as well.” Columbia shoppers will find a wide selection of organic, specialty and gluten-free items at the store, as well as house-made deli items, in-house cured and smoked bacon, local produce, fresh meats and seafood, and a decadent bakery. Free wellness activities and store “walkabouts” (for gluten-free and other food categories) are other features that have made Lucky’s a favorite with Boulder shoppers for more than a decade.
