UNFI releases its 12th annual Better for All Report

The 2022 report details UNFI’s progress toward its ESG commitments and the launch of its Climate Action Hub.

The country’s largest retailer-owned cooperative is looking for diverse-owned private-label manufacturers.

The retailer worked with Latino businesses to add foods such as gluten-free empanadas and grain-free Mexican wedding cookies to its grocery offerings for Latino Heritage Month.

The two-and-a-half-month program allows participants to learn from Peapod Digital Labs’ Private Brands team about the private brand structure of Ahold Delhaize USA.

The Midwest grocer will host an upcoming general merchandise and apparel supplier event this fall as it seeks submissions from underrepresented business owners.

Target and Amazon continue Juneteenth observances as well.

The grocer is using ReposiTrak MarketPlace to increase its purchasing from businesses with diverse and underrepresented ownership.

Company says it has seen “strong momentum building over the last two years.”

"Growth will continue, but at a slower pace than the industry experienced during the 2020 pandemic-influenced whirlwind of grocery shopping and at-home meal preparation," says Denise Purcell of the Specialty Food Association.
