Jimmy Wright Receives NGA’s Great American Award

The president of Wright’s Market, an independent grocery store in Opelika, Ala., is honored for his participation in government relations.

The Kroger Co. has appointed Keith Shoemaker president of its Dallas division, following the passing of Adam Wampler, who previously held the role.

The one-time Lidl U.S. leader, who since engineered Save A Lot’s whirlwind transition, will take Gerd Chrzanowski’s vacated spot as Lidl’s deputy chairman with responsibility for its international business.

The 30-year retail executive, who most recently was SpartanNash’s chief marketing and merchandising officer, succeeds Paula Ginnett, who is promoted to group VP of retail operations in Cincinnati.

The veteran financial professional succeed Rebekeh Manis, who will lead new geographies for the retailer.

Cheryl Sommer acquired the store, which is the only locally owned independent supermarket in Santa Fe, in 2003.

The 40-year Kroger veteran will retire Aug. 7 and be succeeded by Valerie Jabbar, who is currently group VP of center store merchandising.

The St. Louis discounter sets sights on renovating 1,000 stores by 2024 in partnership with licensees; COO Kevin Proctor has separately departed for a new role at North West Co.

Retailer hires physician Daniel Fick to oversee its existing health and medical initiatives, as well as the development of new services and offerings for its customers and employees.
