What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I get to color outside the lines, so to speak. What I do on a daily basis requires creativity and ingenuity. My role doesn’t fit in a box. It frequently challenges me, allows me to spread my wings on a daily basis and work with a diverse group of professionals. In turn, it gives me opportunities to give back and add value to my company, my team and what I do every day.
What inspires your leadership approach?
I know it sounds cliche, but I prefer to treat people as I would like to be treated. I respect that each of us have our own strengths and weaknesses, and it’s my job to home in on those and build a strong, effective team that shares their talents, understands their weaknesses and is willing to ask for help or offer their expertise at the appropriate time. Knowing each person has their own passion and skill set, there is an opportunity to help them build on that and allow them to thrive. I have had the opportunity to work with, and beside, a number of leaders that I truly respect and have used their experience and expertise to help guide and direct my own leadership approach.
What do you value most about being a part of the grocery business?
Hands down, the people. This industry has the most incredible group of individuals that are passionate, thoughtful and resilient. Especially during this challenging time where we are all faced with uncharted territory, this business and the individuals that make it up have taken the reins and have a can-do attitude. What more can you possibly ask for in a team and a business?
