NGA gathers in Washington, D.C., ahead of next month's convention in Las Vegas

Tom Charley takes the reins as the new chair of the National Grocers Association's Government Relations Committee.

The Chicago-based grocery-convenience store's new location at 415 E. Menomonee represents its first steps into national expansion, with more planned.

The specialty retailer's new 16,350-square-foot store will be located at 209 N. 3rd St. in McCall.

The 80,000-square-foot supermarket will employ over 350 workers. The grocery retailer’s fourth MB Spirits store will be next door.

The new store will be located at 8940 Tampa Ave. in Northridge, California, and will feature an expansive offering of Japanese items including cosmetics, fresh meat and produce, as well as popular packaged goods.

The statewide trade association added the following grocers: Paul Brauer, Tom Charley and Shawn Rinnier.

Chicago-based Foxtrot will open a new location in Arlington, Virginia, on Friday, expanding its presence in the DMV area.

The funds will be used to create the SNAP EBT Modernization Technical Assistance Center (SEMTAC) to educate retailers on the federal requirements for SNAP EBT modernization, including the online purchasing and mobile payment programs.

The 2022 grocery landscape tested independent grocers following a pandemic, supply chain woes and historic inflation, proving they are capable to innovate for what lies ahead in 2023.
