The program recognizes the most influential independent grocers in the nation, and entries are sought from owners/managers, wholesalers/distributors and allied industry partners.

The store in Marrero, La., is a homecoming of sorts for the Rouse family, whose founder was born in the town. It is the 64th location for the independent retailer.

The co-op's 13th location, set to open next month in Washington's Ballard neighborhood, will feature a rooftop deck and a sea life-inspired mural influenced by the town’s nautical roots.

The employee-owned retailer, part of HAC Inc., will expand into Stillwater and Ponca City, Okla., with the acquisition.

The fee-based program, which offers different subscriptions, allows consumers to have items delivered from independent grocers.

The innovative new store is owned by the Estevez family, which operates 11 grocery stores, including eight FoodTowns.

The store is the first in downtown Raleigh and the fourth location for the co-op.

The retailer said it would transition the store to the gourmet Italian theme Uncle Giuseppe’s is known for.
