The nominations deadline for Winsight Grocery Business and the Global Market Development Center’s (GMDC) collaborative leadership awards program, Champions of Change, has been extended by one week to June 21, 2019.

The new industry leadership awards program will recognize emerging and established leaders employed in the general merchandise; health, beauty and wellness (HBW); nonfoods; and retail technology solutions sectors in the retailer, wholesaler, supplier, vendor and service provider communities who consistently demonstrate excellence and superior results, logged from March 1, 2018, to March 1, 2019, in three categories:

Store Department Directors/Managers

Recognizes high-performing, results-oriented, customer-focused retail store department managers and assistant managers in the GM, HBW, nonfoods and technology departments.

Emerging Champions

Recognizes inspirational retail industry professionals (titles of director level and below) from the retail, supplier and service provider communities in the GM, HBW, nonfoods and retail technology solutions categories. These candidates are making a mark—and a difference—in their stores, companies and communities through demonstrated leadership, results-oriented achievements, peer mentoring and related exceptional contributions to their companies’ overall success.

Legendary Champions

Recognizes senior-level business leaders (titles of VP or higher) from the retail, supplier and service provider communities in the GM, HBW, nonfoods and retail technology solutions segments. These candidates consistently demonstrate outstanding leadership, dynamic vision, inventive strategic direction and innovative solution-building while providing exemplary inspiration for a new generation of up-and-coming leaders.

“As we begin celebrating our association’s 50th anniversary this year, we couldn’t be prouder to give back to the industry with this recognition for well-deserving leaders who are making a mark on the future of retail,” said GMDC President and CEO Patrick Spear. “At GMDC, we focus on leading innovation and connecting people and companies to opportunities for growth, and the Champions of Change awards program is the ideal manifestation of our guiding values.”

The charter class of 2019 Champions of Change will be revealed in WGB’s September 2019 print issue and will be honored at a celebratory event during GMDC’s first annual Selfcare Summit on Oct. 3, 2019, in Indianapolis. Aligning with the Champions of Change initiative, GMDC’s four-day Selfcare Summit will deliver a holistic approach to the retail, healthcare, product, service and technology industries by focusing on the consumerization of healthcare and its impact on the future of retail.

The extended deadline for nominations is June 21; additional information, including a nomination form, can be found here.
