In celebration of National Candy Month this June, more than 31,000 retailers nationwide are expected to use the month to drive incremental sales in the confection category, according to the National Confectioners Association. Recent innovations—from the sweet and the sour to the environmentally friendly—should make the task a bit easier. Here are just seven that have hit shelves recently.
Sour Jacks Sour Wedges
Promotion In Motion has launched Original Sour Jacks Sour Wedges, which feature cherry, lime, orange, strawberry and lemonade flavors. The new offering joins the revamped Sour Jacks Sour Wedges in Watermelon, Wildberry and Green Apple varieties. Sour Jacks Sour Wedges come in 4-ounce and 5-ounce bags with an SRP range of $1 to $1.79.
Haribo Funtastic Mix
Haribo Funtastic Mix is a new gummy treat that features eight flavors—orange, blueberry, pineapple, lemon, black currant, strawberry, apple and raspberry—and 15 shapes of candy in one bag. A 4-ounce bag has an SRP of $1, a 5-ounce bag $1.49 and an 8-ounce bag $1.99.
Mentos Pure Fresh Gum Paperboard Bottle
Perfetti Van Melle’s Mentos Pure Fresh Gum will soon be available in the U.S. in an innovative paperboard bottle that delivers on the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility. The new bottle is certified recyclable and contains instructions for recycling. Consumers can use their typical curbside services or local drop-off programs. The paperboard bottle, which holds 80 pieces of gum in Fresh Mint and Spearmint flavors (SRP $4.99), is expected to be available on U.S. retail shelves in the first half of 2022.
Fruit-Tella Soft Gummies
Perfetti Van Melle has also released in the U.S. new Fruit-Tella Soft Gummies, which contain real fruit puree as its main ingredient. Fruit-Tella comes in Mixed Berry (strawberry and raspberry) and Peach & Mango varieties for an SRP of $1.79 for a 3.2-ounce bag and $2.49 for a 5-ounce bag.
Kit Kat Thins
The latest addition to Hershey’s Thins line, Kit Kat Thins offer two light and crispy wafers compared to a standard Kit Kat bar of three wafers. Kit Kat Thin bars come individually wrapped in 3.4- or 7.2-ounce size bags for an SRP of $2.39 and $3.89, respectively.
Orbit Mega Pack
The Orbit Mega Pack is the first Mars Wrigley product to partner with How2Recycle, a standardized labeling system that communicates a step-by-step guide on whether and how to recycle each part of the pack. The Orbit Mega Pack has an outer plastic package designed to be recycled in about half of U.S. recycling streams. It comes in Peppermint and Spearmint flavors.
Enstrom + New Belgium Truffles
New Belgium Brewing has partnered with Enstrom Candies on three beer-inspired truffles. Flavors include a Milk Chocolate Amber Ale inspired by New Belgium's Fat Tire; a Dark Chocolate Dark Ale inspired by New Belgium's 1554 Enlightened Dark Ale and a Dark Chocolate Tripel inspired by New Belgium's Trippel Belgian-Style Ale.
