Ahold Delhaize delivers solid Q1 results, driven by its strong U.S. banner performances

Grocery Outlet sales still sizzling as shoppers continue to seek value

The fast-growing West Coast discounter's same-store sales jumped 12.1% during the first quarter, driven by a 7.9% increase in transactions, prompting it to raise its financial guidance for the year.

The retailer will host a meet and greet on May 17 for its new store coming to Gunnison, Colorado, in September. Natural Grocers is set to close two “lower-performing” stores in the Dallas area June 27.

The hard discounter plans a 23,000-square-foot grocery store at 335 Eighth Avenue in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.

The ground-up build, which is about 50,000 square feet, is part of the Ahold Delhaize USA banner's strategic growth in the greater Philadelphia area.

Upgrades include new decor, more grab-and-go items, self-checkout lanes, energy-efficient overhead LED lighting and refrigerated cases with doors.

A bump in traffic drove a 2.7% increase in comparable-store sales for the natural-and-organic retailer, prompting the grocer to raise its guidance for the year.
