Sprouts launches program to ‘rescue’ less-than-perfect produce

The grocer’s new Rescued Organics program aims to reduce food waste and support farmers by selling imperfect fruits and vegetables at a discount.

The same-day delivery provider said some grocers are shifting to fulfilling their own pickup orders, and that it is providing laid-off shoppers with transition assistance and separation packages.

H-E-B also plans to open a 55,000-square-foot e-commerce fulfillment center in the fast-growing city later this year.

That’s about 50 cents higher than the current average hourly wage at the country’s largest grocery retailer. The raises will be reflected on March 2 paychecks, Walmart said Tuesday.

Mike Witynski, who had been with the discounter since 2010, is leaving the company. Dollar Tree shook up nearly its entire C-suite last summer.

George takes over the two-year post at the grocery industry group from Hy-Vee’s Randy Edeker. Leslie Sarasin remains FMI’s president and CEO.

The $98-per-year Walmart Business+ membership offers free shipping and extra savings on qualifying orders from a curated selection of 100,000 products, the retailer said.

He will lead the publicly traded company, which provides sales and marketing solutions for retailers and CPGs.

The updates are designed to prevent fraud in the complex organic supply chain, the agency said.

He takes the helm of the 70-unit independent grocery chain, replacing Mimi Song, who founded the company in 1981.

Washington’s Supreme Court late Tuesday cleared the way for stockholder payments to begin. But the state’s attorney general warned the grocer’s planned $24.6 billion merger with Kroger is “far from a done deal.”
