Busch’s Names Pfeil President and CEO

Roche Bros. veteran succeeds Brooks as head of family-owned Michigan chain

Gary Pfeil has been named the new president and CEO of Busch’s Fresh Food Markets, company officials told WGB.

Pfeil was interim president at the 17-store Ann Arbor, Mich.-based chain. He succeeds Mike Brooks, who left the company in November.

Pfeil spent 20 years with Roche Bros., Wellesley, Mass., rising to roles of COO and president before departing in late 2016. At Roche Bros., Pfeil was instrumental in launching the Brothers Marketplace concept, as well as developing a flagship Downtown Crossing store in Boston.

Busch’s, founded in 1975, emphasizes local selections and service in Southeast Michigan.

Brooks, a former SuperValu and Delhaize executive, was named CEO of Busch's in 2014, succeeding John Busch who became chairman. John Busch is the son of company co-founder Joe Busch.
