Fareway Stores announced June 16 its plan to build a 21,000-square-foot full-service, neighborhood grocery store in Brandon, S.D.

The Boone, Iowa-based retailer, which has 130 stores in six states, said it has purchased property on the northeast corner of West Holly Boulevard and Lancer Avenue in Brandon for the store.

The Brandon Fareway Meat and Grocery will feature full-service butcher counters, farm-fresh produce, competitive prices and to-your-car carryout, the grocer said. The location will also offer FastLanes, a self-service checkout option, and online shopping and curbside pickup.

“Local residents may be familiar with Fareway, but we look forward to serving them with a full-service, neighborhood grocery store in Brandon,” said Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer. “We are excited to join the community and want to thank those responsible for helping make this project possible.”

The location will be part of Brandon’s Encore Park mixed-use development. “The expansion of retail options, workforce housing for our residents, and new job opportunities in both the retail and industrial sectors are welcome additions to our community,” said Brandon Mayor Harry Buck.

Fareway said construction is planned to begin following area improvements, with more details to come soon.

Fareway also operates stand-alone meat markets and recently opened a Fareway Meat Market in the Des Moines, Iowa, neighborhood of Beaverdale.
