Giant Eagle and the Pittsburgh Steelers are extending their long-standing partnership in support of a new cause: COVID-19 vaccination.

Starting March 2, the Steelers' Heinz Field will serve as a mass vaccination site, with Giant Eagle pharmacists administering doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to eligible individuals who have scheduled an appointment through GiantEagle.com. Vaccinations will take place at Heinz Field's PNC Champions Club at the south end of the stadium.

As of now, appointments are being scheduled only for March 2-5. Steelers President Art Rooney II told Steelers.com that the expectation is that additional weeks will be added depending on vaccine availability. Individuals being vaccinated will have an appointment set up to receive their second dose; Pfizer's vaccine requires two doses delivered 21 days apart.

Giant Eagle's dedicated webpage for mass vaccination clinics indicates that additional clinics are planned for Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana. However, no additional sites or dates are listed at this time. Giant Eagle customers who wish to receive text-message updates about vaccine availability can sign up to do so by texting VACCINE to 737587.

Individuals must be eligible under current local requirements to make a vaccination appointment at any Giant Eagle Pharmacy or mass vaccination site. Proof of date of birth or occupation as well as an insurance card must be shown on-site at an individual's designated appointment time.

Rooney praised the vaccination initiative with Giant Eagle. "Being able to help with probably the most important thing we're doing right now in this community, which is trying to get everybody vaccinated, trying to get everybody that kind of protection, I really can't think of anything more important that we could be doing right now than to partner with Giant Eagle to do this," Rooney told Steelers.com's Bob Labriola.
