San Antonio-based H-E-B is making progress in its efforts to grow its presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth area while also increasing its commitment to Texans with the launch of its first H-E-B Wellness Primary Care Clinic.

A new store in Allen, Texas, is the latest store to be announced for the DFW area. H-E-B said it will hold a groundbreaking event May 25 for the store to be located on the corner of Exchange Parkway and North Greenville Avenue. The Dallas Morning News reported that H-E-B bought the 12.5-acre site in 2014 but just filed the permits to begin work on May 16. Work is expected to be completed in 2023, the newspaper reported.

Earlier this year in March, H-E-B broke ground on a store in McKinney, Texas, that will open in 2023 on the northeast corner of Custer Road and Eldorado Parkway, and new stores in Frisco and Plano, Texas, are expected to open later this year after work began on those in spring 2021.

This series of new store openings will build on H-E-B’s presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area and reinforce its commitment to serve more customers in this growing part of Texas, H-E-B said when it announced plans for the Plano and Frisco stores.

H-E-B’s Central Market banner has operated in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2001 but traditional H-E-B stores that average between 70,000 and 80,000 square feet, with some as large as more than 175,000 square feet, had yet to set up shop in the Metroplex. “H-E-B is committed to the DFW area for the long term and hopes to serve even more of the Metroplex in the future,” the company said in spring 2021.

The grocer is growing elsewhere in Texas, as well. It recently opened a 122,000-square-foot location in New Braunfels, Texas, (near its San Antonio base) that features its first two-story True Texas BBQ, as well as its first Home by H-E-B department.

And near Austin, H-E-B started construction earlier this May on a new 121,000-square-foot store in Georgetown that is expected to open in spring 2023 and include a True Texas BBQ restaurant.

More recently, H-E-B announced plans to extend its commitment to Texans beyond food through H-E-B Wellness, a comprehensive health solution offering primary care and nutrition and pharmacy services; wellness food products from brands such as H-E-B Organics, H-E-B products made with Select Ingredients, and H-E-B Naturals; and convenient meal planning solutions.

As the next step in providing this health solution, H-E-B opened a H-E-B Wellness Primary Care Clinic on May 12 at 8601 South Congress Ave. in Austin, Texas. Already operating in Houston and San Antonio, H-E-B Wellness Primary Care offers full-service primary care for individuals ages 12 and up, operating in coordination with registered dietitians with a food first philosophy rooted in science. In addition to primary care, services will include physical therapy, health/nutrition coaching, clinical pharmacists, specialty referrals and labs.

“In everything we do, our goal at H-E-B is to take care of Texans with a servant heart and a best-in-class experience you can trust. We believe that food plays an integral role in well-being, and as one of the largest sellers of food in the state of Texas, we’re committed to making it easy for Texans to live better and healthier,” President Craig Boyan said in a release.

H-E-B has more than 420 stores in Texas and Mexico.
