An Inside Look at Hy-Vee's Reimagined Store in Missouri

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee opened its "entirely reimagined" Missouri store on Feb. 22. The store, which is located at 2150 E. Sunshine St., in Springfield, Mo., is similar to Hy-Vee's first new flagship grocery store that opened last fall in Grimes, Iowa.; that store features several new departments as well as a large, open dining area and a food hall that offers Hy-Vee's own recently launched breakfast menu as well as a pub with a full bar, several fast-casual concepts and an outpost of Wahlburgers. Hy-Vee on Sunshine is a 93,402-square-foot store that features new mobile payment technology with Hy-Vee Scan & Go, as well as self-checkout options for a faster, more convenient shopping experience. Other amenities include a mother’s room, dry cleaning and postal services. The store is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. An accompanying Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh convenience store, which opened Nov. 16, 2021, on the west side of the parking lot offering fresh on-the-go meal offerings, a Market Grille Express and select grocery staples is open daily from  5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The new Springfield store includes a large fresh produce area with more than 2,000 offerings, including 177 organic items. Proud of its Midwest roots, Hy-Vee said the totally reimagined grocery store is the first of its kind in Missouri and third overall throughout the retailer’s eight-state territory.

The store also offers amenities that the company has become known for, as well as a few treats. An expanded Candy Shoppe department with premium, novelty and nostalgic selections will satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. Additional in-store offerings include DSW shoes and accessories, Joe Fresh clothing and a Pair Eyewear kiosk.

A new feature at the Hy-Vee on Sunshine includes a new dining experience for customers. With a large, open food hall dining area for fast-casual dining, shoppers can enjoy a wide selection of cuisine, beginning with a taste of Italy at Mia Italian. Other options include new breakfast menu selections and a pub with a full bar and outdoor patio. Other mealtime offerings include HyChi and Hibachi; Nori Sushi; Market Grille Express; Long Island Deli; and a Wahlburgers at Hy-Vee.

The Hy-Vee on Sunshine includes all-digital shelf labels that display product information and pricing and has more than 100 TVs that feature Hy-Vee products, promotions and services. This location also has a Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits department featuring a walk-in beer cooler, walk-in humidor and walk-in wine room.

Looking to expanded  its HealthMarket department, the location in Springfield features a larger selection of vitamins and sports nutrition options, expanded floral and gift shop departments and a pharmacy with a drive-up window.

A beauty department, with an array of products to choose from will quickly fill up shoppers' trunks. With the Hy-Vee Scan & Go app, customers can scan their favorite beauty products from their phone while shopping. Digital scales, touchscreens and QR codes are located throughout the store to eliminate the guesswork on product pricing.

The store also offers amenities that the company has become known for, such as a full-service bakery featuring artisanal and specialty breads, patisserie, cakes and a cake decorator station. Other offerings include a full-service delicatessen, a full-service meat counter with a chef’s station, a dry-aged steaks case, and full-service seafood counter with sustainable seafood options.
