The Kroger Co. has opened its much-anticipated Kroger Marketplace store in Green Township, Ohio, just west of the company's Cincinnati headquarters.
The 124,000-square-foot store, which has been in the works since 2015, is located across the parking lot from an existing 68,000-square-foot Kroger, which closed the night before the new store’s opening. The store took over a parcel of land that had been vacant for more than 20 years, reports said.
Marketplace stores carry expanded varieties of general merchandise, including clothing, home goods, jewelry, bed and bath, kitchen and small appliances, and toys. Kroger has used the larger footprint as a replacement store in many communities, although a ground-up new Marketplace also opened this month in Bluffton, S.C.

Adam Goetzman, Green Township’s assistant administrator and director of planning and development, told Cincinnati.com that because there are no other Kroger Marketplaces in the Green Township area, the new addition "puts us on par with other communities that do have this type of facility.”
The new store offers all of the expanded features of a Kroger Marketplace, such as a large Murray’s Cheese section.
City officials bragged on Facebook that “The parking lot is flat, the employees are wonderful and they are already giving back to our community.”
