At a time of rising food costs, Lidl has joined fellow discounter Aldi in promoting a traditional Thanksgiving basket at its stores that allows shoppers to assemble a holiday meal for less than $30. The basket includes a 13-pound turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and all of the trimmings to feed a family of up to 10 people for less than $3 a person, says the Arlington, Va.-based company.

Lidl, named a Top 3 Supermarket by USA Today Readers’ Choice Award, will offer the special prices the week leading up to Thanksgiving, starting on Nov. 17.

Like Aldi, Lidl is basing its $30 Thanksgiving shopping list on the items and quantities outlined in the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner Cost Survey. Items include a 13-pound frozen turkey, pumpkin pie mix, 1 gallon of whole milk, carrots, celery, Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, green beans, pie shells, fresh cranberries, whipping cream, bagged stuffing and sweet potatoes.

“As the prices for food rise across the country, Lidl is continuing to give shoppers the ability to put more on the table this holiday season,” said Stefan Schwarz, Lidl U.S. chief product officer, in a release. “For less than $30, shoppers at Lidl can provide family and friends a delicious Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings. We are proud to be part of this holiday tradition.”

In addition to the essential items for a Thanksgiving meal, Lidl also offers items to elevate the Thanksgiving spread, including wines, cheeses and baked goods. Looking ahead to December, Lidl recently debuted its largest advent calendar selection to date.

Lidl offers a variety of high-quality cheeses from around the world, such as double crème brie and a Spanish tapas cheese sampler. These can be paired with Lidl’s cured meats for an easy-to-assemble charcuterie board at an affordable price, says the company.

Lidl baked goods, including Lidl’s French croissants and Apple Turnovers are baked throughout the day for freshness. Starting at 59 cents each, the croissants contain high butter content, are made using an authentic French recipe. The Apple Turnover consists of apple filling enveloped in a light and flaky crust.

With dozens of award-winning wines to choose from, Lidl seeks to make it affordable to put quality wines on the table this holiday season. Lidl points to Caladeverde Nero d’Avola Sicilia, a light-bodied, authentic Sicilian wine made with organic grapes, priced at less than $10. This Italian wine pairs well with hearty meats and has the versatility to accompany all that the celebration has to offer.

Lidl operates approximately 11,550 stores and is active in 32 countries, employing more than 341,000 employees globally. Lidl first established its U.S. headquarters in Arlington, Va., in June 2015, and today sells its products in more than 150 stores across nine states on the East Coast.
