After a successful seven-store pilot launched in November, Meijer is rolling out Shop & Scan—which allows shoppers to scan bar codes on items as they shop and bag their groceries as they go—to all of its stores.
The companywide rollout will begin in the coming weeks, and will be available in all of the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer’s 235 stores by the end of summer.
After first launching Shop & Scan last November at five of its Grand Rapids-area stores and two locations in Holland, Mich., more than 12,000 Meijer customers have since downloaded the app.
"Shop & Scan will make the Meijer experience dramatically faster and more convenient for our customers," Meijer CIO Terry Ledbetter said in a statement. "This technology joins our curbside pickup and home delivery programs to provide yet another option for Meijer customers to personalize their shopping experience."
The Shop & Scan technology is the latest expansion of Meijer’s popular mPerks app-based platform. Once a customer has completed their shopping, they simply scan their phone at a self-checkout lane and pay, making the checkout experience quick and easy.
