Schnucks Opens First EatWell Location

Schnuck Markets debuted its new banner earlier this month. EatWell, A Natural Food Store by Schnucks, opened June 24 in Columbia, Mo. This is the second location for the retailer in the community. The 42,000-square-foot former Lucky’s store underwent an extensive remodel for the new banner, and opened its doors at 7 a.m. followed by a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 a.m.

“I’m excited for our customers to discover all that we have in store for them at EatWell, including organic produce, a natural living section, freshly squeezed juices, as well as clean-label indulgences,” said Schnucks Chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck in a release announcing the store’s grand opening. “EatWell will also have unique features such as full-service sushi and ramen bars open for lunch and dinner.”

The store features grass-fed beef, sustainable seafood and deli meats fresh-roasted in the store.

To add to the experience while they shop in the store, customers also can enjoy a local draft beer, root beer, kombucha, a glass of wine or a variety of beverages prepared by an on-site barista.

EatWell employs about 80 teammates, most of whom previously worked at Lucky’s, which operated the store until Schnucks purchased the location during Lucky’s bankruptcy auction earlier this year.

“We’re celebrating 50 years of serving Columbia customers, and their loyalty over these last five decades makes this a perfect place for Schnucks to try something new with our EatWell store,” said Schnuck. “Our mission as a company is to nourish people’s lives, and we’re excited to be able to build on that mission by launching a store where it’s easy to make healthier choices while still also being able to pick up a few decadent treats for those special occasions that may be worth the extra calories.”

In addition to offering natural food items, the neighborhood store will also include a focus on organic and local items and feature a natural living department.
