Southeastern Grocers Supports Folds of Honor
Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG), parent company of Bi-Lo, Fresco y Mas, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, has donated more than $2.3 million to Folds of Honor to aid in the nonprofit’s mission to provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.
The six-week program, which began May 20 with a $100,000 pledge from the SEG Gives Foundation and a $50,000 donation from the Coca-Cola Co., has now raised more than $2.32 million. The historic donation was made possible through contributions from the Jacksonville, Fla.-based grocer’s charitable foundation and valued partners, as well as generous in-store and virtual customer donations that will continue through the Fourth of July.
Numi Partners to Supply Fresh Produce to Food Insecure
The Numi Foundation has partnered with Salesforce and the Curry family’s Eat Learn Play Foundation to connect thousands of low-income families throughout Oakland, Calif., with unsold, fresh produce from local, minority-owned farms that might have otherwise gone to waste due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Founded by Numi Organic Tea, The Numi Foundation, along with its partners, has already served more than 7,000 boxes of fresh food (more than 100,000 pounds) to nearly 7,000 low-income families within the Oakland Unified School District, who are suffering from hunger and food insecurity. The foundation’s next goal is to deliver 30,000 boxes, saving more than 300 tons of farm produce from waste while supporting local, minority-owned farms who are unable to sell millions of pounds of fresh produce due to the closure of restaurants.

Hy-Vee Partners to End Summer Hunger
Hy-Vee Inc., in partnership with Kellogg’s and Keurig Dr Pepper, has kicked off its End Summer Hunger campaign to provide food for children and families in need. During the month of July, for every qualifying purchase at a Hy-Vee grocery store, one meal will be donated to Feeding America food banks in the West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee’s eight-state region. The program has a goal of donating 1.5 million meals.
“We know that many families in our communities struggle with hunger, which is compounded this year by the effects of COVID-19,” said Donna Tweeten, Hy-Vee’s EVP, chief of staff and chief customer officer, in a statement. “Having access to the proper nutrition is essential to strong, vibrant communities.”
