Stop & Shop, which has long offered e-commerce for home delivery through its association with sister brand Peapod, is now expanding the service to a faster store pickup option.

The company this week announced same-day pickup is now available at 20 Stop & Shop stores in New England in metro New York. The rollout is part of a previously announced plan by parent Ahold Delhaize to step capital investment this year behind both Stop & Shop and e-commerce. Officials say Ahold Delhaize U.S. brands would see 600 new click-and-collect locations this year; Stop & Shop is on track to get 175 of them.

“As we continue to improve the omnichannel experience for our customers, we plan to roll out 175 of these click-and-collect locations by the end of the year,” Stop & Shop President Mark McGowan said in a release. “We’re excited to offer our customers the convenience of shopping online for the all the products available at their local store, which they can now pick up in just a few hours.”

Peapod shoppers can select “pickup” for their local store as part of their Peapod order, then head to their local store and have a Stop & Shop associate load groceries right into their car. The new service gives customers access to an even wider selection of grocery items online. including fresh items such as precut fruit, prepared foods and entertaining trays that are available at their local store, Stop & Shop said.

Stop & Shop said stores offering the pickup service have four to six designated “Grocery Pickup” parking spots where customers can park, then call to let the store team know they have arrived.

The same-day online pickup service costs $2.95, and new customers can receive the service free for 90 days.

The 20 Stop & Shop stores currently offering same-day online pickup are as follows:
