Stop & Shop Unveils 21 Remodels on Long Island

Refreshed units begin 'Reimagine' campaign

Stop & Shop has unveiled a fresh look at 21 stores Suffolk County, N.Y., debuting a comprehensive rebranding program schedule that will roll out to the 400-store chain in coming months and years.

The new look comes with a $133 million capital investment to improve the in-store experience for local customers, with a focus on delivering more fresh, healthy and convenient options, plus lower prices on items throughout the store. Stop & Shop employs more than 8,000 associates on Long Island and has added approximately 350 part-time associates, while also promoting nearly 100 associates to full-time positions as part of this initiative and its efforts to enhance the customer experience.

“The remodeling of our Long Island stores is a key milestone in our journey to refresh the Stop & Shop brand for the future and to strengthen our position as market leader,” Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid said in a statement. “We’re excited for local customers to enjoy the changes we’ve brought to Long Island, like even more fresh produce, lower prices and new solutions to help make things easy for our customers get their shopping done and get back to what matters most.”

Officials with Ahold Delhaize, Stop & Shop’s parent company, announced the Reimagine Stop & Shop initiative last year and previewed changes at stores in the Hartford, Conn., market. Under the plan, the company will spend $1 million to $10 million per store to modernize the fleet one market at a time. Stop & Shop is Ahold Delhaize’s largest U.S. brand.

While updates vary by store location, highlights of the 21 newly refreshed Stop & Shop stores include expanded produce sets; more prepared foods, including sushi bars, hot bars and in-store smoked meats; wider selections of craft beer, including interactive pairing kiosks at some locations; in-store cafes; convenience cases located bear the checkout stocked with essentials such as milk, bread, butter and eggs; and increased selections of ethnic specialities and cheeses.

Stores have also added and improved technologies with faster checkout with the Scan It mobile app, including frictionless checkout and same-day grocery pickup of Peapod orders in stores.

Stop & Shop has also lowered prices on items throughout the store.
