Wegmans opened its highly anticipated 106th store on May 19. The new 100,000-square-foot store at 11051 Ligon Mill Road, Wake Forest, N.C., marks the Rochester, N.Y.-based grocer’s fourth location in the state.
In addition to fresh meals prepared throughout the day before customers’ eyes, the new Wake Forest store is home to The Burger Bar, Wegman’s family-friendly, casual restaurant that serves burgers and sandwiches, kids’ meals, frozen custard, milkshakes and floats, along with beer and wine. Shoppers can dine in The Burger Bar seating area or take it to go.
Shoppers are invited to engage with Wegmans' culinary experts to discuss the preparation of meals, pairings and ingredients. Additionally, the grocer turns out an impressive array of prepared foods, including authentic Italian pizza, made-to-order or sold by the slice, from the Pizza Shop. A salad station with fresh greens, protein options, fixings and 10 dressings is another offering.
The culinary team at Wegmans creates a dizzying array of dishes, such as fresh sushi, poke bowls, hot soups and packaged ready-to-go entrees and sides that are also available in Family Packs sizes. Other foodservice features include the Sub Shop, offering hot and cold artisanal sandwiches, subs, wraps, party trays and cookies; a bakery filled with artisanal-style breads and rolls, cookies baked fresh throughout the day, breakfast pastries and more; as well as the Buzz Coffee Shop, serving breakfast sandwiches and organic specialty coffee, tea and espresso drinks.
Known for its expansive produce department, Wegmans features hundreds of different fruits and vegetables on any given day, including many organic choices. Each store location builds strong partnerships with nearby growers and, in season, offers locally grown produce picked daily and delivered directly to the store, the company said.
Specialty and artisanal cheeses produced domestically or imported from around the world are yet another feature of the new store. The temperature and humidity-controlled affinage case offers premium cheeses aged in the Wegmans Cheese Caves, which pair well with the grocer’s approximately 2,000 wines ranging from $6 bottles to offerings from some of the finest wine estates in the world, Wegmans added.
In addition to 29 check stands, 12 of which are self-checkout, the Wake Forest Wegmans offers a variety of convenient ways to shop the store. Its Meals2Go program allows customers to order Wegmans’ chef-prepared restaurant foods for curbside pickup or delivery. Customers can also complete their grocery shopping online for curbside pickup or delivery to their door in as little as one hour, the company said. Meanwhile, Wegmans’ SCAN App allows customers to scan and bag their groceries for a contactless shopping experience.
