Sprouts Farmers Market to open 4 new in-store coffee bars

The specialty grocer is expanding its pilot program with PRESS Coffee. Sprouts has also opened several new stores in recent weeks.

The specialty grocer on Tuesday reported comparable-store sales growth of 3.9% during its third quarter, with net sales totaling $1.7 billion. It also promoted Curtis Valentine to CFO.

The opening comes just a few months after parent company Heritage Grocers Group purchased the chain in June.

President Eric Stover previously served as CEO of the company’s largest banner, Cardenas Markets, and Chief Operating Officer Prabash Coswatte was chief administrative officer for Heritage.

Grocery Tech Basket: In just over a year, the Cardenas Markets parent has grown to 113 stores, increasing its annual revenue from $700 million to roughly $3 billion.

The specialty grocer’s CEO and vice CEO took to the retailer’s monthly podcast to dispel some rumors, including whether the chain would ever install self-checkout kiosks. (Spoiler alert: No.)

The Asian grocery chain describes itself as “a place where you can immerse yourself in the rich culture and flavors of the Philippines and experience the warmth and hospitality of its people.”

A curated product selection and growing omnichannel focus are leading the natural-and-organic grocer down the right path, executives said in reporting second-quarter results Tuesday.

The CPG vet will lead marketing efforts at the 18-unit, California-based Filipino-American grocer.
