Fast-growing German discount grocery chain Aldi is expanding in Louisiana again—bringing its store count in the state to six with more on the way.

As part of the grocer’s Gulf Coast expansion, Aldi on Thursday opened its first store in Metairie, Louisiana, which is in the New Orleans metropolitan area. The new store is located at 8855 Veteran's Blvd., the discount grocer said.

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for five years running,” said Heather Moore, Loxley regional VP for Aldi, in a statement. “We’re excited to open our first Aldi store in Metairie and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”

The Batavia, Illinois-based chain is expected to host another new store opening this month in Covington, Louisiana. The grand opening of the store located at 123 Holiday Blvd., will take place on Jan. 19, according to the grocer's website.

On Wednesday, Aldi took the top spot as the most-trusted discount and small-format grocer, according to the 2023 Most Trusted Grocery Retailers in America list conducted by market research firm BrandSpark International in partnership with Winsight Grocery Business and Newsweek.

WGB’s new store openings map for December saw Aldi as one of the leaders in new store openings. As for 2023, Aldi said it will open its first store in Staten Island, the southernmost part of New York City's five boroughs.

“We are excited to confirm we are planning to open our first Aldi store on Staten Island but do not have further details at this time. We will reach back out once we have more specific details,” Chris Daniels, South Windsor Division VP at Aldi, confirmed in an email statement to WGB.
