Check out Whole Foods’ Montana premiere in Bozeman
By Russell Redman on Feb. 02, 2023Whole Foods Market on Wednesday officially entered Montana—its 44th state—with the opening of a nearly 32,000-square-foot store in Bozeman at 2905 W. Main St., on an outparcel site in the Gallatin Valley Mall. The Amazon-owned chain had entered its 43rd state, Wyoming, in February 2021 after acquiring independent operator Jackson Whole Grocer and converting it to the Whole Foods banner.
A specialty department focusing on cheesemakers and artisan producers houses more than 100 cheeses from around the world, including the U.S.—with organic goat cheese from Montana’s Amaltheia Organic Dairy—the U.K., France, Spain, Netherlands, Italy and Greece.
Customers will find a wide assortment of conventional, organic and Sourced for Good produce. There’s also a floral section with seasonal offerings from local farms, such as Rodi Farm in Laurel and High Country Growers in Helena, Montana.
Whole Foods highlights its commitment to sustainability and better-for-you products in signage above the store's fresh-cut fruit and vegetables section.
Reflecting its Upper Midwest location, the Bozeman Whole Foods store sports an “outdoor adventure” theme with a modern and earthy look, including exposed wood beams, high ceilings and large paneled windows overlooking nearby mountains.
The cafe seating area, also carrying the outdoor theme, provides a spot for customers to enjoy the store’s range of prepared foods, which include a hot food bar, a salad bar and a soup station, plus made-in-house rotisserie chicken and pizza as well as prepacked salads and sandwiches to go. An outdoor patio with heaters also offers a cozy venue for dining or sipping a beverage.
A full-service coffee bar from women-owned Treeline Coffee Roasters—local to Bozeman—serves up a menu of coffee, tea and specialty beverages. Local offerings are a linchpin of the new store, which features more than 75 brands from Montana and Wyoming.
Smoked seafood is one of the highlights at the full-service seafood counter, which also offers made-in-house seafood cakes, ready-to cook meals, and lobster mac & cheese.
Double-smoked bacon is a featured item at the full-service meat counter, along with ready-to cook stuffed chicken breast, meatloaf, meatballs and made-in-house sausage. Butchers are on hand to cut steaks to order or debone poultry.
Local brands also are part of the frozen food aisle, which also includes the grocer’s 365 by Whole Foods Market private label.
