Publix GreenWise Market has opened its second new-concept specialty, natural and organic store to be located in a high-rise, multiuse building. The new store, which has two towers of apartment living and a parking garage above it, opened Aug. 19 at 555 Channelside Drive in Tampa, Fla., in the redeveloped Water Street neighborhood. The first GreenWise high-rise concept opened earlier this year in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
“So many exciting things are happening in downtown Tampa, and we are pleased to be part of that,” said Publix President Kevin Murphy. “Our curated mix of high-quality specialty make-at-home and grab-and-go items will add a level of convenience for residents and visitors looking for easy meal solutions as they enjoy the events and activities available in the surrounding area.”

The store includes locally curated items and experience zones. For grab-and-go options, customers can visit the Pours and Eats departments. At Pours, shoppers can choose from a variety of coffee, tea, smoothies and wine and beer on tap. Its Eats department, meanwhile, is where customers can go for chef-created recipes and made-to-order sandwiches.
The Tampa store also offers seafood cook-in-bag meals, which customers can cook at home in minutes or have store staff prepare while they shop. The meals give customers a choice of seafood—salmon, cod, tilapia, shrimp, scallops or shrimp and scallops—as well as a choice of sauce—Dijon cream, scampi, Caribbean mango or sweet chili. The seafood is sustainably sourced or responsibly sourced and never frozen.
The 26,000-square-foot store is connected to the district cooling system in Tampa’s Water Street neighborhood, which allows the chilled water from the cooling system to provide improved energy efficiency and better stability for the store’s air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This is the second time Publix has connected to a district cooling system for air-conditioning needs but the first time for refrigeration.
GreenWise Market now has nine stores open—most of which are in Florida, with one location each also in Georgia and Alabama—and a 10th location is planned for St. Augustine, Fla.
