Domino’s Wants to Deliver Food Everywhere

The Lempert Report: New 'Hotspots' feature could allow the chain to send pizza to customers at beaches, parks and landmarks

Domino’s "Hotspots” will allow its drivers to meet customers at U.S. beaches, parks and landmarks to hand over pizza, cheesy bread and other food.

Domino’s has been a leader in mobile ordering through emojis, texts and tweetsbut this move challenges Uber Eats, Grubhub and others who until this point have relied on delivery to homes or offices.

The reason this is so smart is that Domino’s recognizes that people eat differently now that they once did. People are eating and snacking everywhere, and to be able to deliver foods and beverages where people want to eat is a brilliant move.

The question is whether the company and their drivers can make it happen. Finding nearby parking could be an issue; while using GPS to find the person who ordered is easy. And then there is the question of if this offering somehow interferes with the license that other food stands have with certain public locations like ball parks or beaches that may prohibit other food operators from selling their foods at these locations.

It will be interesting to watch to see if this is a food disruptor or a food bust.
