With shoppers searching for deeper discounts amidst higher food prices, CHEF’STORE’s new opening widens the wholesale grocery industry landscape even further.

The grocery wholesaler’s shows offer retailers the opportunity to sample new products, build relationships and experience the latest retail industry innovations. UNFI is scheduled to host four of them this year.

The test store, called The Pantry, is the first to try Amazon rival Trigo’s frictionless shopping technology in the U.S., with the goal of bringing the tech to Wakefern member-owned grocery stores, the cooperative said.

SpartanNash said the deal, which includes the independent grocery wholesaler’s 300,000-square-foot distribution center, will expand its supply chain network.

Conklin will assume the post from Brandon Barnholt on April 1. Barnholt has led the natural-and-organic foods wholesaler for 15 years.

AWG President and CEO David Smith to retire at the end of 2023; Dan Funk will succeed him.

The new 23,000-square-foot warehouse, which does not require a membership, will be in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
