Walmart to acquire grocery robotics company Alert Innovation

The deal will boost the retail giant’s order-fulfillment speed and allows Walmart to use custom-made bots to get digital orders out more efficiently, the company said.

The company has already teamed up with Standard AI to bring autonomous units to the University of Houston and San Jose State.

The cashierless convenience store expands on the technology that's currently in use at more than 40 Amazon Fresh grocery stores around the country.

The retailer last month expanded its partnership with warehouse automation specialist Symbotic, which will see its tech implemented in all 42 of Walmart's regional distribution centers.

The retailer says market fulfillment centers, located within a Walmart store but with inventory separated, are the next phase of its store integration and evolution.
