Independent Grocery Organizations NGA, ROFDA Team Up

Retailer Owned Food Distributors & Associates will merge under the National Grocers Association, bringing together two organizations with missions to promote the independent grocery industry.

CookIt, which will be introduced at the ShopRite and The Fresh Grocer banners, combines menu planning and food purchase with one click.

Pat Raybould will continue as CEO and chairman at the 20-store Nebraska-based grocer.

The deal’s completion fuses two Carolinas-born, family-owned operations with deep regional roots.

The four-store Foodtown chain run by Allegiance's longtime CEO is switching co-ops and banners, citing "fierce competition" in New Jersey.

The program recognizes the most influential independent grocers in the nation, and entries are sought from owners/managers, wholesalers/distributors and allied industry partners.

The store in Marrero, La., is a homecoming of sorts for the Rouse family, whose founder was born in the town. It is the 64th location for the independent retailer.

The co-op's 13th location, set to open next month in Washington's Ballard neighborhood, will feature a rooftop deck and a sea life-inspired mural influenced by the town’s nautical roots.

The employee-owned retailer, part of HAC Inc., will expand into Stillwater and Ponca City, Okla., with the acquisition.
