Ahold Delhaize Progresses Toward Self-Distribution

The company said its 1.2 million-square-foot distribution center in Bethlehem, Pa., receives, selects and transports 200 million cases of nonperishable grocery products annually for more than 210 Stop & Shop and The Giant Co. stores and e-commerce centers.

Aldi Store to Open March 3 in Mobile, Ala.

The discounter plans to open approximately 150 new stores this year, putting the Batavia, Ill.-based chain on track to become the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022.

The high-tech CFC, measuring 270,000 square feet, will be located in the Cleveland region, and is expected to become operational within 24 months after the site breaks ground.

Dom’s Kitchen & Market—helmed by Mariano’s founder Bob Mariano, former Mariano executive Don Fitzgerald and Jay Owen, great-grandson of Dominick’s founder Dominick DiMatteo—opened its first location at 2730 N. Halsted St. in Chicago in 2021.

The retailer, from former Mariano's executive Don Fitzgerald, has its sights set on further Windy City and suburban expansion—as it contests the complaints of another indie grocer.

The value retailer opened eight new stores in the fourth quarter and closed out the year with 415 stores in seven states.
