Aldi opened three new stores on Thursday, part of an ongoing, aggressive expansion plan that has included the addition of more than 1,000 new markets from the German discounter over the past decade.

The three new locations include two stores in Missouri at 1631 Denmark Rd. in Union; and 2901 E. Business Loop 70 in Columbia. The third location is in Mississippi at 671 Hwy 12 West in Starkville.

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier,” said Rob Jeffries, O’Fallon regional vice president for Aldi, in a statement. “We have served this community for more than 40 years and are excited to continue to offer Columbia residents an affordable way of shopping.”

The Mississippi location is the first store to open in Starkville and another Mississippi store is set to open at 1724 Veterans Blvd. in McComb on Jan. 19, according to the discount grocer’s website.

“We’ve been voted the price leader for five years running,” said Heather Moore, Loxley regional VP for Aldi, in a statement. “We’re excited to open our first ALDI store in Starkville and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”

Looking to expand its presence in Massachusetts, a new store will open at 100 Independence Way in Danvers on Jan. 26, according to the grocer’s website.

Founded in 1961, Aldi recently took the top spot as the most-trusted discount and small-format grocer, according to the 2023 Most Trusted Grocery Retailers in America list conducted by market research firm BrandSpark International in partnership with Winsight Grocery Business and Newsweek.
