Fareway Stores is looking to expand its home state footprint as it has agreed to purchase Brick Street Market and Café in Bondurant, Iowa, the Boone, Iowa-based retailer said on Friday

Located at 114 Brick Street SE in Bondurant, the 20,000-square-foot store, which opened in spring 2014, will transition to a Fareway in early 2023. The grocer must still complete its necessary due diligence before the transaction will close, Fareway said in a statement.

Fareway currently operates more than 130 stores in the Midwest.

“We are excited to expand Fareway Meat & Grocery into Bondurant,” said Fareway CEO Reynolds W. Cramer, in a statement. “We look forward to serving area residents locally and becoming an integral part of the Bondurant community. Eight years ago, Brian and Mary Lohse brought a local grocer to Bondurant, and we are grateful they believe in Fareway to carry on their efforts.”

Fareway is looking to provide its Bondurant customers with fresh, high-quality meat, which it touts as “second-to-none,” with a full-service butcher counter, produce, competitive prices, and to-your-car carryout. The current full-service café operations will also be maintained, Fareway said.

“In 2014, we opened Brick Street Market to serve our community of Bondurant," the Lohses said in a statement. "We have enjoyed the great support of the community and forged great relationships with our loyal employees and customers. We have built our business on the values of service, integrity and loyalty; values that we share with Fareway. While it was not an easy decision to make, in deciding to sell the grocery store to Fareway, we know that they will carry on those same values and provide greater opportunities to both our employees and our wonderful community."

Fareway will soon begin interviewing existing Brick Street Market employees, the company said, and anticipates the store being closed beginning in early January for remodeling. The Brick Street Market Café will remain open during the Fareway remodel, the grocery retailer said.

Fareway also operates stand-alone meat markets and recently opened a Fareway Meat Market in the Des Moines, Iowa, neighborhood of Beaverdale.
