It’s been a busy week for H-E-B. In addition to breaking ground on two massive stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, the San Antonio-based grocer has announced a third new store slated to open in the area in spring 2023. The two now under construction are in Plano and Frisco, Texas, while the third is planned for McKinney.
Each of the new stores “underscores the company’s commitment to the DFW Metroplex,” said H-E-B, calling the region a “dynamic and growing part of Texas.” The company, which has served the area with its Central Market stores since 2001, also said it is committed to the DFW area for the long term and hopes to serve even more of the Metroplex in the future. A groundbreaking for the McKinney store is expected later this year.
“H-E-B has a long history serving Texans, including more than 20 years in the DFW community, and we’re excited to expand on this commitment by providing more shopping options and job opportunities for Texans,” said Juan-Carlos Rück, EVP of H-E-B's Northwest Food/Drug Division, in a statement “We’re committed to make this store a pillar for the city, and we look forward to providing an outstanding shopping experience with the best H-E-B has to offer.”
The 111,000-square-foot Plano store, set to open in fall 2022, will feature the company’s flagship format, with a full-service H-E-B Pharmacy with drive-thru; Texas Backyard department, featuring outdoor essentials; and a True Texas BBQ restaurant with drive-thru. The store will also include H-E-B Curbside and Home Delivery, which will allow customers to place orders online for pickup at the store or delivery to the home.
Other store highlights include a bakery featuring handmade artisan breads, cakes and warm tortillas made in-store; a deli with an expansive cheese selection; a Sushiya offering handmade sushi selections made in-store daily and an Asian grill with rice bowls, teriyaki and more;H-E-B Meal Simple, a line of fresh, convenient chef-inspired meals prepared in-store; and a Cooking Connection area providing live demonstrations and samples. Additional fresh offerings include a meat market, an expansive produce selection, and a Blooms floral department.
As the largest wine retailer in Texas, the store will have an extensive wine section with a sampling station, the company said.
The Plano store will also boast a healthy living department with bulk food items, sports nutrition products and supplements; a beauty department with a wide selection of cosmetics and other beauty essentials; a pet department featuring Heritage Ranch by H-E-B pet food and toys; and a household essentials department with seasonal disposable plates, bowls and utensils.
“Inside and out, H-E-B designed the store to reflect the character unique to the Plano community and emphasized environmental sustainability, incorporating several energy efficient inclusions such as CO2 refrigeration units and LED lighting,” the company said. The site also features extensive native landscaping.
At 111,000 square feet, H-E-B’s new Frisco store is also a flagship format, and will feature similar departments and amenities to the Plano location.
H-E-B’s Central Market stores in DFW include locations in Dallas, Plano, Southlake and Fort Worth. H-E-B stores also serve communities near the Metroplex, including Burleson, Hudson Oaks, Granbury and Waxahachie. Additionally, H-E-B’s Favor Delivery now serves 29 cities across the metro area. H-E-B currently has more than 420 stores in Texas.
H-E-B commemorated its Plano and Frisco groundbreaking ceremonies with gifts totaling $100,000 to 10 nonprofits in the two cities, said the company.
