Produce for Kids has awarded Heather Shasa, retail dietitian for ShopRite of Little Falls, a $1,000 scholarship as the winner of its National Nutrition Month in-store display contest for retail dietitians who receive the free quarterly We Heart RDs resource kit.

During the contest, Produce for Kids encouraged dietitians to share photos of their displays using the kit for a chance to win.

“I look forward to utilizing the materials sent in the We Heart RDs kit for my in-store programming as well as my events in the community,” said Shasa. “The materials and resources have been indispensable to me as a retail registered dietitian.”

Sent to more than 470 retail dietitians at over 55 retailers across the U.S. and Canada, the quarterly We Heart RDs kit features a counter card for easy identification of seasonal produce, recipes featuring those produce items, “I’m a healthy eater” stickers for children, tips from Produce for Kids blog contributors and seasonal information from produce commodity boards, which featured Avocados From Mexico, National Processed Raspberry Commission and the National Watermelon Board.

In addition to the retail dietitian display contest, Produce for Kids team members completed certificates in food, nutrition and health through the University of Central Florida, providing a holistic overview of current food and nutrition issues and their impact on health.

“It’s very important to us to provide our partners with sound nutrition resources, recommendations and recipes,” said Trish James, VP of Produce for Kids. “Having our team complete this certificate adds to the integrity of our brand and all of the brands that partner with us to create a healthier generation.”
